We Need To Pay More Attention To Local Players Development If We Want To Win AFCON – Mohammed Polo

Former Ghana international Mohammed Polo has urged Black Stars Coach C.K Akunnor to prioritize the development of locally based players to that of foreign-born Ghanaian footballers.

The veteran trainer saids there are quality players in the local scene that need to be coached and trained well so they can mature enough for the national football teams.

In an interview with Tema Community 2 based radio station, Plan B FM on the  Ka Wadwen sports show, the former Hearts of Oak Coach reiterated the need to pay more attention to our local players if we want to end our forty-year trophy drought.

“We have very good and quality players here in Ghana, but the problem is coaching”

“I think the current Black Stars coach should start his philosophy with these local boys and I can tell you they will deliver if they are invited to play for the Black Stars”, he said

“Some of them need a little push and mentorship and everything will be fine for us”, he concluded

He is popularly known as the “Dribbling Magician”, and arguably the most technically gifted player ever to emerge from Ghana during his playing days. He was in the Ghana squad that won the 1978 African Cup of Nations held in Ghana. Polo was a left winger and played for Hearts of Oak in the Ghana premier league
