The New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator for Tema Central, Richard Aning, has cautioned residents of Ayawaso East to vote with a clear purpose in the upcoming parliamentary by-election, warning against blind loyalty to party identity.
Speaking on Nkɔsɔsem, a current affairs programme on Plan B FM, Mr. Aning urged voters to assess candidates based on competence and policy, rather than assuming victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) simply because the constituency has traditionally been an NDC stronghold.
He stressed that treating the seat as an automatic win could lead to the election of an underqualified representative, thereby undermining the interests of the electorate.
“This by-election is an opportunity for voters to exercise independent judgment,” Mr. Aning said. “Choosing a candidate solely because of party affiliation, even if they are incompetent, does a disservice to the people of Ayawaso East.”
The by-election, scheduled following the vacancy of the seat, has attracted national attention as a test of voter engagement and political accountability in a historically one-party-dominated constituency.
