Ghanaians growing impatient over delays in corruption prosecutions – Anti-corruption crusader

Ghanaians growing impatient over delays in corruption prosecutions – Anti-corruption crusader
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Anti-corruption crusader Nana Otu Darko, a broadcast journalist, has expressed his displeasure over what he describes as the government’s inability to arrest and prosecute individuals allegedly involved in corruption.

Speaking on Plan B FM’s EBANOSEN, Nana Darko stated that in 2024, Ghanaians went to the polls with pain and anger over the state of corruption under the former administration led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. However, he noted that no significant arrests have been made so far.

According to him, although John Dramani Mahama may have done his best as an individual, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is yet to demonstrate to Ghanaians that the promises made by the National Democratic Congress government are being fulfilled.

“If the government achieves everything — including a stronger cedi and reduced fuel prices — but fails to imprison corrupt officials as promised, then the government has failed,” he stated.

Nana Darko cited issues such as the Sky Train project controversy, the National Cathedral project, and alleged ghost names within the National Service Scheme as examples that require decisive action.

He also expressed disappointment in the much-publicised ORAL initiative, claiming it has yielded no visible results, and questioned the whereabouts of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

“I know the wheels of justice run slowly, but I urge the government to establish a fast-track court, similar to what was done under former President John Agyekum Kufuor,” he concluded
