The Ghana Education Service (GES) has declared fresh steps towards the mass registration of Ghanaian children aged between 6 and 14, following a high-level meeting with the National Identification Authority (NIA)
In a statement released by GES on February 20, 2026 management confirmed that it had welcomed a delegation from the NIA led by its Executive Secretary, Wisdom Kwaku Deku. The discussions focused on preparations for the forthcoming nationwide registration exercise.
The exercise will cover children who have already registered and will begin in 56 districts across the country. Cards will be distributed at the same schools where the children were initially registered.
The Service pledged to facilitate access to basic schools and to work closely with its regional and district education offices to ensure the exercise is implemented efficiently.
The registration is aimed at enrolling children within the specified age bracket into Ghana’s national identification system.
Authorities say the initiative will play a critical role in national planning, improving access to public services and strengthening identity management systems.
GES encouraged parents and guardians to cooperate fully when the exercise begins, as the registration of children is vital for national planning, access to services, and strengthening identity management systems in Ghana.
