Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has officially declared his intention to contest the position of National Chairman of the party.
In a statement dated February 4, 2026, Chairman Wontumi said the NPP is at a critical moment that demands steady, principled, and courageous leadership capable of rebuilding confidence and restoring unity within the party.
According to him, the party’s recent challenges have provided hard lessons, making it imperative for the NPP to rally behind a leader who is deeply rooted in the grassroots and committed to the collective good of the party rather than personal ambition.
“I declare my intention to serve as National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party not for personal ambition, but to strengthen, rebuild, and unify our great party,” he stated, adding that he took the decision after consulting party elders and seeking divine guidance.
Chairman Wontumi emphasized that leadership at this stage requires bravery and sacrifice, noting that difficult decisions may be unavoidable if the party is to regain its footing and reposition itself for electoral success.
He assured party members that his vision is centered on empowering the grassroots, restoring confidence among the rank and file, and organizing the party to be battle-ready ahead of future elections.
“We are ready. We are organized. We are built for the battle ahead,” the statement said.
Chairman Wontumi expressed confidence that under determined leadership, the NPP can regroup and secure a decisive victory in the 2028 general elections.
He concluded by calling for unity and commitment to the party’s ideals, while invoking blessings for the NPP, Ghana’s democracy, and the nation as a whole.
