A 25-year old excavator driver, Gausu Yusif has been shot dead whiles his friend Charles Essuman is also in a critical condition after unknown gunmen opened fire on them when they were paving way into Awutu Kwame Whettey Forest this morning.

The unfortunate incident happened at Awutu Kwame Whettey near Awutu Beraku in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region.

Information gathered indicates that, the deceased and his friend were assigned to pave way into the forest to take sample of the rock for stone quarry purposes.

Awutu Beraku District Police says the driver and his friend were using the excavator to pave way into the forest when the unknown men on motorbike open fire on them.

Speaking to Bryt Fm News correspondent Eric Owusu Amponsah, Awutu Beraku District Commander Superintendent Edmond Nyamekye confirmed the unfortunate incident and said investigation is ongoing to arrest the assailants.

Meanwhile, Chief of Awutu Aberful, Nai Kojo Nam-Quaye who handed over the rock to the Chinese investors appealed to IGP to investigate the matter well and arrest the perpetrators.
