Rev. Christiana Otu Lartey, speaking on the Nyansapo Fie show on Plan B 104.5 FM, has cautioned the public against promoting harmful stereotypes, noting that they contribute significantly to social division and misunderstanding.
She explained that stereotypes occur when individuals make narrow or myopic generalizations about others. Using examples, she said some people assume that “all women are wicked” or “all men are wicked,” while others generalize based on personal experiences, such as a woman who has survived rape concluding that all men are rapists. According to Rev. Lartey, such perceptions are inaccurate but often accepted as truth, causing serious damage in society.
She further emphasized that people differ in temperament—some are naturally introverted while others are extroverted—and therefore individuals can never be the same. Because of these differences, she urged the public to avoid quick judgments.
Rev. Lartey concluded by advising that before making statements about others, people should exercise caution and conduct proper checks to ensure what they say is factual and fair.
