2026 Budget: Gov’t greenlights construction of three modern stadia

Ghana’s sports landscape is set for a major shake-up as Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson announces a sweeping 2026 plan that extends far beyond building new arenas.

Presenting the 2026 Budget to Parliament, Dr. Forson disclosed that construction of three modern stadia will commence in some of the eight underserved regions, marking the first phase of a long-awaited push to bridge the country’s sports infrastructure gap.

Beyond brick and mortar, the Ministry of Youth and Sports is gearing up for a broader transformation. Two major legislative proposals; the National Sports College Bill and a Sports University Bill — are expected to be tabled, signalling a push toward professionalising sports training and administration.

The ministry will also invest in revitalising school and district competitions nationwide to nurture young talent and strengthen Ghana’s grassroots pipeline.

While the selected regions have yet to be named, the initiative positions 2026 as a turning point in efforts to expand opportunity, develop future stars, and support national and regional sporting events across the country.
