A tragic road accident on the Accra-Aflao highway, at Awalavi in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region, has resulted in several passengers sustaining various degrees of injuries.

The accident occurred after a 15-seater transit minibus with the registration number GT 5645-21 lost control and hit a pavement metal along the road.

Mr Emmanuel Awudza, an eyewitness, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency, said that the bus which was moving from Accra to Aflao on top speed, lost control and swerved off its lane before the hitting the pavement metal.

“I was on my rice farm along the Accra-Aflao highway, and l heard a sudden loud sound of tyre burst. Suddenly, the vehicle lost control and hit the metal along the road as well,” he said.

He said that the driver of the vehicle was at a top speed and could not easily control the car after the back tyre burst which resulted in the accident.

Mr Awudza said the driver and several passengers sustained various degrees of injuries on the head, arms, legs, and other body parts and were transported to the nearby Weta Hospital in the municipality for medical attention.

“We need to commend the residents of Awalavi for their kind gestures and intervention to transport the injured passengers to the Hospital, even before the arrival of the Afife Police.”

He appealed to drivers on the Accra-Aflao highway to be extra careful particularly during nighttime and early morning travel to avoid unfortunate accidents which could endanger the lives of passengers.

Madam Sandra Mileba, a business woman, who was a passenger on the bus, told the GNA that, “we boarded the vehicle at Tema roundabout and we are going to Aflao, l can’t really tell how this accident happened but we thank God there is no fatality as at now.”

She lamented some missing valuable items such as mobile phones of accident victims after the accident and appealed to the public to assist the Police to launch investigation into the incident.

The Ghana Police Service is yet to comment on the accident.GNA
