Replacing Bawumia Could Be NPP’s Only Chance At Revival – Dickson Adomako Kissi Warns Party Delegates

Just In: Bawumia concedes defeat in 2024 Presidential Election, congratulates Mahama

A member of the Bryan Acheampong campaign team and former Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutuom, Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, has urged delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to “drop” Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming flagbearership race if the party hopes to return to power.

Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, Dr. Adomako Kissi likened Dr. Bawumia to the biblical Jonah, who had to be thrown overboard to save a sinking ship.

Responding to claims that NPP delegates in Accra have already decided in favour of Dr. Bawumia over Bryan Acheampong, he said the Vice President’s performance in the previous primaries and subsequent general election shows that the Greater Accra Region has lost confidence in him.

“I didn’t really want to go there, but in the last primaries, he underperformed in Greater Accra, and in Greater Accra, we won only two in the presidency out of the 34,” he said.

“Greater Accra is not very responsive to him like they are responding to Dr. Bryan Acheampong, and that one is not me, it’s the euphoria I am accessing from behind.

“It is not just about one individual. When it happened that Jonah had to be removed from the ship to save the ship, it happened, and it gets to a point that at some point in time, you need to remove any Jonah who is sinking the ship,” he explained.

Dr. Adomako Kissi further argued that the NPP’s poor showing in the last presidential election should prompt a bold decision to replace Dr. Bawumia, similar to how the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) replaced Haruna Iddrisu with Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as Minority Leader.

“The party deficit requires that we make a radical change, and it is not about the individuals. Let me commend the NDC—when they realised they had to remove Haruna Iddrisu to win the Central Region, they did it. Haruna Iddrisu is a colossal figure. The NDC moved him from Parliament as a leader so that they could win the Central Region,” he said.

Meanwhile, former Vice President and NPP presidential hopeful Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, begin a nationwide campaign tour as part of his bid to become the party’s flagbearer.
