The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has recovered GH¢12.9 billion in misused public funds from various state agencies.

This was disclosed by the Chairperson of the Committee, Abena Osei-Asare, during an interview with journalists after its sitting on October 1, 2025.

“We have a report which we will look at. Per the work of the Public Accounts Committee, and the support of the Auditor-General, we have been able to retrieve about GH¢12.9 billion and, there’s a whole report on that; we’ll be sharing it with the public at the right time,” she disclosed to the media.

According to Osei-Asare, the Committee is making significant strides to ensure that culprits are held accountable for how they utilise public funds.

Abena Osei-Asare, who is also the Member of Parliament for Atiwa East, called for a collaborative effort in exposing infractions in public institutions.

She stressed that only a united front coupled with the active participation of the Parliament, the media, and civil society can help locate the looters and deal with them accordingly.

“Yes, we are making impact, but we can do better than what we are doing now and that is why we want to ask for support from the media as well, because we are all partners in this,” she stated.

“As we all bring it to the fore and see how best we can support each other to make sure the right things are done, I believe it will go a long way to reduce the infractions that we see when it comes to the management of our public finances,” she added.
The recovery of misused public funds by the Committee is based on findings and recommendations from the Auditor-General’s audit reports.
