WAEC Cannot Escape Blame for Leaked Papers – Kpone Katamanso NDC communicator

Scrap WAEC now – Nat’l Council for Private Schools demands

Francis Badu Melo, Deputy NADMO Coordinator and NDC communicator for Kpone Katamanso, has raised serious concerns about the recurring issue of leaked examination papers under the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

Speaking on Nkosuo Nsem, Mr. Melo argued that the persistent leakage of papers, popularly referred to as “apor,” is a clear indication that there are corrupt individuals within the WAEC system. According to him, if questions set by WAEC find their way into the public domain before the exams, then the responsibility must lie with insiders who have compromised the process.

He further criticized WAEC’s approach of canceling examinations once leaks are detected. “You can only cancel an exam if there is evidence of malpractice inside the exam hall. But when it comes to leaks, the problem is internal. Who leaked it? It’s the people within WAEC who should be held accountable,” he stated.

Mr. Melo also commented on the possible legal actions from parents whose children’s exams may be cancelled, saying they are within their rights to sue WAEC. However, he questioned the outcome of such lawsuits, stressing that without systemic reforms, the cycle of leaks and cancellations will only continue.
