Lady Charlotte Hanson, Head of Public Relations Co-ordinating Division at the Information Service Department, has urged parents to train their children to be God-centred, as it benefits both parents and children.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s Nyansapɔ Fie show with host Nana Asabea, Lady Hanson encouraged parents to view parenting as a process, rather than a destination, as each stage requires a unique approach.
“You need to show them what you want them to reciprocate, as they will likely do the same,” she said.
Lady Marilyn Abeka-Daniels, an adjunct lecturer at the University of Media, Arts and Communication’s Institute of Journalism (UNIMAC-IJ), also contributed to the discussion. She advised the four types of parents – authoritarian, authoritative, permissive, and neglectful – to consider parenting as a holistic package, providing emotional nurturing beyond just paying school fees.
“You must teach them how to express their feelings and be intentional in this new generational parenting by communicating with them,” she added.
