Four individuals have been arrested by the North East Regional Police Command in connection with the alleged murder of a 70-year-old woman accused of witchcraft at Sangbana, a farming community in the Bunkpurugu/Yunyoo District.

The suspects—Suuk Jakwa, 67; Banyiwoo Ntookwib, 32; Moapya Kwayaja, 30; and Amos Nlaji, 29—are alleged to have conspired with others, currently on the run, to attack and lynch the deceased, Noab Bilatukin.

Confirming the incident, the North East Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Robert Anabiik Anmain, stated that on 10 July 2025, the suspects allegedly accused the woman of casting spells in the community and proceeded to lynch her before fleeing the scene.

Acting on credible intelligence, the police tracked down and arrested the four suspects at their respective hideouts in and around Bunkpurugu on 14 July 2025.

DSP Anmain said the suspects are in custody and assisting with investigations.

While condemning the act, he reiterated the command’s resolve to ensure that all those involved are brought to justice.

He further urged the public to refrain from mob justice and witchcraft accusations, stressing that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
