The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is calling on Ghanaians to avoid provocation and ensure a peaceful by-election in Akwatia, following the passing of the constituency’s Member of Parliament, Ernest Yaw Kumi.
Anthony Sam-Anoom, NDC Communicator for Tema Central Constituency and Assemblyman for Republic Electoral Area, emphasised that there should be no room for provocations that could trigger violence and chaos in Akwatia during the by-election. He stressed the importance of maintaining peace and stability to ensure a successful electoral process.
The discussion, held on Plan B FM’s Nkɔsoɔnsɛm show hosted by Odiamono Kwaku Gyimah, saw the call for peace echoed by Richard Aning, NPP Communication Team Member for Tema Central Constituency.
Aning commended the Interior Minister’s call as a wake-up call, drawing lessons from the recent disturbances in Ablekuma North, and noted that it should serve as a reminder not just for Akwatia, but for Ghana as a whole. He also urged the Ghana Police Service to swiftly apprehend those who violently attacked Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson during the Ablekuma North rerun election, to prevent further chaos.
By heeding these calls for peace, Ghanaians can ensure a smooth and successful by-election in Akwatia.
