Francis Badu Kwasi Melo, the Deputy NADMO Coordinator for Kpone-Katamanso, has launched a scathing critique of the government and political leadership over persistent corruption in Ghana’s energy sector, particularly within the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). Speaking on the Nkosuo Nsem Show on Plan B FM with host Obidehye Kofi Sakyi, Mr. Melo declared that Ghanaians should not be burdened with any new levies or charges until all those implicated in the ECG and PDS scandals are prosecuted.
He referenced the Energy Minister’s recent statement about the disappearance of several ECG containers, calling it yet another example of impunity in government. “How can entire containers vanish and not a single person has been jailed? This is why Ghanaians are tired,” Mr. Melo said.
He also raised serious concerns about the lack of investigations into the Minority Leader, who once served on the ECG board, and the flagbearer of the main opposition party, who has been linked to the controversial PDS deal. “These matters are left hanging while leaders talk about introducing new levies. First, we want justice,” he insisted.
Mr. Melo did not mince words when addressing the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), claiming the party is collapsing due to dishonesty and poor leadership. “They can hold as many conferences as they want, but nothing will change. The NPP has no future in 2028 – their character has already disqualified them,” he declared.
He also slammed what he called a worrying trend of Ghanaians defending corrupt figures. “When the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP was summoned by EOCO, some Ghanaians protested in his defence. If we keep shielding the corrupt, how can we clean the system?” he asked.
Mr. Melo ended by calling for bold, decisive action against corruption. He urged the government to demonstrate seriousness by prosecuting all those involved in the ECG saga before asking citizens for more money to fund a broken system.
