A 24-year-old waitress, Abigail Morkor, has been granted bail by the Accra Circuit Court after she allegedly stabbed a trader, Dorcas Ogbede Ashitey, during a heated altercation at Teshie Camp 2 on the evening of June 10, 2025.

According to court documents, the incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. when the accused visited the complainant’s residence to demand repayment of money owed her by the complainant’s children.

What began as a demand quickly escalated into a confrontation after the complainant allegedly hurled insults at the accused.

In the heat of the argument, Morkor reportedly broke a beer bottle and stabbed Ashitey in the abdomen, causing her to bleed profusely.

The complainant was rescued by her son, Jeffrey Boye, who immediately rushed her to the police station to file a complaint.

Police issued a medical form and she was sent to the hospital, treated and later discharged.

The accused was subsequently arrested without a warrant and admitted to the offence in her caution statement.

She was charged with causing unlawful harm contrary to Section 69 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

Chief Inspector Belinda Asante, who is prosecuting the case, initially opposed bail, citing the proximity of the accused and complainant’s residences as a risk to peace and safety.

“The complainant is still in pain and difficulty,” she stated.

However, during the court proceedings, Morkor pleaded not guilty but expressed deep remorse, shedding tears and vowing to personally apologize to the complainant if granted bail.

In a surprising turn, Ashitey responded before the court, saying she had forgiven the accused.

With both parties expressing a willingness to reconcile, the prosecution later withdrew its opposition to bail.

Presiding Judge, His Honour Kwabena Kodua Obiri-Yeboah, granted bail in the sum of GH¢10,000 with one surety.

The case has been adjourned to July 23, 2025, for further hearing.
