The Member of Parliament for Tema West Constituency, James Enu Esq., has initiated a 3-day clean-up exercise in the constituency, citing that such an effort had not been undertaken for over two decades. The exercise aims to restore the area’s drainage systems, which have been encroached upon by buildings.
“It’s unfortunate that people have built on drainage systems, turning our community into a flood-prone area,” James Enu Esq. lamented. “Whenever it rains, people’s properties get flooded, causing immense hardship.”
The MP emphasised that the clean-up exercise would be a monthly affair, urging residents to take ownership of their environment. He criticised the inhabitants for intentionally building on waterways and blocking water flow, as well as deliberately disposing of waste in drains, exacerbating the flooding issue.
Community 2, a well-designed community with proper demarcation within the Tema West Constituency, was a key focus area for the clean-up exercise. James Enu Esq. called on residents to desist from practices that harm the environment and to work together to maintain the cleanliness and beauty of Tema West.
In a subsequent interview with Obidehyeɛ Kofi Sekyi, James Enu Esq. commended President John Dramani Mahama for his initiative to ban Styrofoam in Ghana, citing its potential to significantly reduce waste segregation issues in the country.
The MP assured residents that the clean-up exercise was not a partisan politics-driven initiative but a genuine effort to improve the lives of the people in Tema West Constituency. He pledged to continue working with the community to address environmental concerns and promote sustainable development.
James Enu Esq. commended the Buz Stop Boys for their enthusiasm and active participation in the clean-up exercise, praising their commitment to improving the community. He also expressed gratitude to the community members who turned out to support the initiative.
Oheneba Kwadwo Sarfo, Founder of the Buz Stop Boys, acknowledged Apostle Dr. Ing Kwadwo Sarfo’s guiding principle, “service to mankind is service to God,” highlighting the group’s commitment to creating a clean Ghana through dedicated service.
“By 20-30 years from now, we the youths will be taking over the affairs of the state, and therefore need to work assiduously to make things right rather than pointing fingers at our current leaders,” he said.
The exercise is expected to bring relief to residents and improve the overall livability of the area.
