The Management of the National Service Authority (NSA) has announced that it has uncovered a well-orchestrated systemic fraud at its Birim North District office.

According to a press release dated May 14, and signed by the Director General, Mr Felix Gyamfi, the officials involved have been interdicted pending the outcome of investigations.

“The Management of the National Service Authority (NSA), through a collaboration with a whistleblower, has uncovered a well-orchestrated act of systemic fraud involving the District Manager and the MIS Manager in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region. During a meeting convened this morning, both individuals were presented with substantial evidence of their misconduct, In further discussions the two officers admitted to their direct involvement in the fraudulent activity. As a result, the Management of the Authority has interdicted the two officers, pending further investigations,’ Mr Gyamfi wrote.

This action is part of the larger payroll fraud which has bedeviled the Authority for years. We are aware this is a broader canker within the National Service Authority Nationwide.

The NSA further revealed that it has also uncovered instances of falsification of records.

“As part of the ongoing reforms and comprehensive clean, of the National Service enrolment process, the Management of the National Service Authority (NSA) has uncovered a troubling trend involving the willful falsification of records by some individuals currently working as Teachers, Nurses, Midwives, Custom Officers, and others who work in Ministries, Departments, Agencies and private sector companies. These individuals who are confirmed to be permanent staff within the Public Service, are found to deliberately conceal their employment status and fraudulently enroll as regular National Service Personnel, they draw monthly Service Allowance as if they arc regular National Service Persons in violation of established protocols and the laws governing the Public Service,” Mr Gyamfi explained.
