“Unfair”: Trotro Drivers, Others to strike From May 19 Over Chaos On Roads

Commercial transport operators in Ghana will strike on May 19, 2025. They are protesting against traders who operate on roads and pavements.

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union, the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana, and the True Drivers Union are leading the strike. The drivers are frustrated with the government’s failure to enforce road regulations.

The Road Traffic Regulations Act of 2012 prohibits selling goods on roads and pavements. This includes areas near railway crossings, traffic signs, and intersections.

At a press conference on May 13, Samuel Amoah spoke for the union. He said lawlessness is affecting both drivers and passengers.

The union demands immediate action from the Ghana Police Service and the government. Amoah stated that it is unfair for transport operators to follow strict rules while traders do not.
