Tensions Within NPP Force Chairman To Pause ‘Thank You’ Tour

The National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken a brief break from the party’s ongoing nationwide “Thank You” tour, according to an official statement released by the party.

The statement, signed by Director of Communications Richard Ahiagbah, cites “pressing matters” as the reason for the temporary withdrawal.

This development follows closely on the heels of former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong’s decision to also pull out of the tour, citing security concerns for his supporters.

Agyapong’s withdrawal came after a violent incident at a party event in Kumasi, where a student affiliated with his team was stabbed during a confrontation with armed men.

Agyapong, in his statement to the media, expressed his initial desire to join the tour for the sake of party unity, but stated that he felt unwelcome. He also cited safety concerns for his team as a reason for his withdrawal.

“Because of yesterday’s events, myself and my team want to pull out because lives are threatened. I don’t think I can adequately protect my team,” Agyapong said.

The NPP’s official statement, however, maintains that the National Chairman remains fully committed to the tour and will rejoin the team “in due course.”

The party also expressed its appreciation for “all members’ continued support, enthusiasm, unwavering commitment, and cooperation.”
