Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has announced that his office will file criminal charges in two high-profile corruption scandals: the Accra Sky Train project and the National Service Scheme (NSS) ghost names scandal.

The charges are expected to be filed next week.

Speaking to journalists in Accra on Wednesday, April 30, Dr. Ayine stated, “The investigations into the National Service ghost names scandal have progressed well. And we will be filing charges against some of the persons involved from the first week in May, I mean, a few days’ time.”

Regarding the Sky Train project, Dr. Ayine revealed that investigations have concluded and established that $2 million was paid by the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) to a company for preliminary work, without the approval of the GIIF board.

“The only persons who knew and acted on the payment were the former CEO, Mr. Solomon Asamoah, and the former Board Chairman, Prof. Ameyaw Ekumfi,” the Attorney General stated.

“Both will be charged next week. The docket is ready. We know the charges we are filing against them, so they will be charged next week,” he added.

He also mentioned that some GIIF board members have offered to testify as prosecution witnesses, and he is considering offering immunity deals to those willing to cooperate.

Dr. Ayine also indicated that his office is actively working on other major cases, including the National Cathedral project expenditures, procurement of mathematical sets, and the Senior High School WiFi initiative.
