Blue Water Guards To Spotlight Galamsey Hotspots – NDC Communicator

Blue Water Guards To Spotlight Galamsey Hotspots – NDC Communicator
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Blue Water Guards, a specialised initiative aimed at combating illegal mining (galamsey) in Ghana, is now operational and actively working to protect the country’s water bodies and environment.

According to Cromwell Nana Ansah, a communication team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Kpone Katamanso Constituency, the Blue Water Guards will conduct 24-hour surveillance in affected areas. He described the unit as the “eyes” on the ground, providing real-time intelligence to support the fight against galamsey.

Speaking on Plan B FM’s Nkɔsoɔnsɛm show with host Obideheyie Kofi Sekyi, Ansah explained that this strategy ensures a balanced approach to both environmental protection and national security. He noted that deploying all military personnel to fight illegal mining could leave the nation exposed to terrorist threats, hence the importance of the Blue Water Guards initiative.

The initiative presents a creative solution to the galamsey crisis, combining environmental vigilance with national security concerns. By leveraging local surveillance efforts, the Blue Water Guards aim to address illegal mining effectively while preserving security stability across the country.
