Dr. Kwabena Duffuor Denies Alleged Tribal Remarks Against Northerners

Former Finance Minister Dr. Kwabena Duffuor has vehemently denied alleged tribal remarks against Northerners in connection with the appointment of a District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Kumawu District Assembly.

The allegations surfaced in a viral video circulating on social media, prompting a demonstration at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party office in Kumawu on Saturday, April 5, 2025.

The controversy began when a group claiming to represent Northerners in the Kumawu Constituency accused Dr. Duffuor of vowing never to allow a Northerner to be appointed as DCE.

However, in a press statement signed by his aide, Daniel Obeng Peprah, Dr. Duffuor refuted the claims as “false and defamatory.”

He emphasized that Dr. Duffuor has no involvement in the selection or nomination process of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).

He also highlighted his contributions to the development of the Kumawu Constituency, including the recent acquisition of a plot of land for the construction of a party office.

According to him, the former minister expressed his respect and admiration for all ethnic groups in Ghana, noting that “many of his closest allies are Northerners.”

He categorically denied any tribal comments, publicly or privately, and warned that “anyone with evidence of such remarks should come forward within seven days or face legal action.”

“Dr. Duffuor reaffirms his commitment to the unity and growth of the NDC, as well as the peace and development of Ghana,” the statement concluded.
