Asamankese: Police Rescue Couple From Lynching Over ‘Alleged’ Murder

A sub-Chief, Kyidomhene, of Brofoyedru in the Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti region, Nana Osei Bonsu, has been allegedly killed by unidentified persons.

Speaking to Correspondent Nicholas Osei-Wusu, the Assembly Member for the Mprim Electoral Area, Mr. Richard Nketiah, noted that, though the motive for the murder could not be immediately established, the 48-year old Kyidomhene was believed to have been pulled out of his vehicle, with a temporary number plate, and shot at close range from his occiput.

According to the Assembly Member, the body was found in front of the blue Toyota Corola by some residents at the outskirt of Mrim near Asante Mampong at about 3 am on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.

The Assembly Member said the chief was believed to be driving from the Boanim direction toward Asante Mampong through Mprim when he was attacked and killed.

Mr. Nketiah said when he rushed to the scene upon receiving information of the incident, he observed that, part of the road had been blocked and that the door to the front seat had been forced opened while the sub Chief, in his mauve lacoste ‘T’ shirt over a pair of black jeans shorts, lay prostrate with his face in the blood.

According to the Assembly Member, apart from the mobile phone which could not be immediately traced, there was no indication that, anything else had been taken away from him.

In a subsequent interview with GBC, the Assembly Member for the Krobo Electoral Area where Brofoyedru is located, also in the Mampong Municipality, Yaw Takyi, said his interaction with the deceased’s family revealed that, the late Nana Osei Bonsu had left the hometown after a visit last Sunday for Kumasi where he lives with his nuclear family.

He said while the extended family at Brofoyedru knew he had return to his wife, the wife said he left home in Kumasi yesterday, (Monday 31st March) for his hometown.

It is therefore believed that it was while traveling back to Br)foyedru that he was attacked and killed

GBC’s source at the Ashanti North Regional Police Command at Mampong has confirmed the incident and that the body of the 48-year old sub Chief has been deposited at the Mampong Government Hospital’s morgue pending investigation to unravel circumstances of the murder.
