Three persons sustained injuries with one in critical state as the celebration of the Eid-ul-Fitr festival turned chaotic in Kasoa.

Two rival youth groups from Walantu and Odupongkpehe Zongo, two Muslim dominated communities in the central part of Kasoa who “had an existing feud” clashed during a street carnival organized to climax the celebration of the Eid, according to a relative of one of the victims who got critically wounded.

Though the groups had the misunderstanding “the fasting period prevented them from engaging in a fight and the intervention of community leaders also seemed to have put the matter to rest”- Mohammed Ousman told 3News.com.

An injured victim, a female, said “I was having fun with my friends when the violence suddenly erupted. I felt a sharp cut on my hand”

Police’s swift reaction following the clash led to the arrest of one person detained and assisting in investigations at the CBD police station in Kasoa. A hammer and other dangerous implements have also been retrieved by police.

3News.com’s sources in the police said the members of the youth groups carried on them various weapons including well sharpened machetes to the carnival.

Efforts are underway to apprehend other possible suspects who are linked to the street fight.
