According to the story by GHOne TV, Police in Ashaiman Constituency, Greater Accra Region, have arrested four men in connection with the theft of four motorcycles, commonly known as Okada, just days after a break-in was reported at a local motorcycle shop.
The suspects were apprehended today, February 16, 2025, following an investigation that led officers to a hidden storage site where the stolen bikes were found.
According to the Ashaiman District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Kwame Mensah, the break-in occurred last week when unknown individuals gained access to the shop by cutting through the metal doors and disabling the security system.
The shop owner, Mr. Samuel Ofori, reported the incident the following morning after discovering the loss of four high-value motorcycles.
“We received a report of a break-in and launched investigations immediately,” said Chief Supt. Mensah.
“Our team followed leads that pointed us toward a group of individuals who were trying to sell motorcycles without proper documentation.”
The suspects, identified as Kwame Asare, Isaac Boateng, Emmanuel Antwi, and Kofi Adu, were caught during an undercover operation after they attempted to sell the stolen bikes at a significantly reduced price.
The police posed as potential buyers and requested registration documents, which the men could not provide.
Upon further interrogation, the suspects confessed to the theft and led officers to a hidden garage in Lebanon Zone 2, where the motorcycles were stored.
One of the suspects, Isaac Boateng, reportedly admitted that they planned to dismantle the bikes and sell the parts separately to avoid detection.
“We didn’t think the police would find us so quickly,” he said during questioning.
The stolen motorcycles have since been returned to Mr. Ofori, who expressed relief and gratitude to the police.
“I never thought I’d get my bikes back,” he said.
“I appreciate the police for their quick action and dedication.”
Authorities have urged motorcycle shop owners in Ashaiman and surrounding areas to improve security by installing surveillance cameras and using stronger locks to prevent similar incidents.
“Motorcycles, especially Okadas, are popular targets for thieves because they are easy to resell,” Chief Supt. Mensah explained.
“We advise business owners to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities immediately.”
The suspects are currently in police custody at the Ashaiman District Police Station and are expected to face charges of theft, breaking and entering, and destruction of property.
Investigations are ongoing to determine if the men are linked to other motorcycle thefts reported in the area.
