It’s nepotistic to appoint more than one person from a particular family- Hanna Tetteh cautions

It’s nepotistic to appoint more than one person from a particular family- Hanna Tetteh cautions

Former Foreign Affairs Minister and Member of Parliament, Hanna Tetteh, has expressed concerns over the potential for nepotism in government appointments. Her remarks comes in the wake of President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to forming a lean government.

In an interview, Hanna Tetteh acknowledged that not everyone who contributed to the NDC’s electoral victory could be accommodated in government positions. However, she cautioned against appointment of multiple individuals from the same family, stressing that such a move would contradict the party’s past criticisms of “family and friends” government.

“It’s a bit nepotistic to, after having complained about a family and friends government, appointment more than one person from a particular family, regardless of the fact that we’ve all been in politics before” she stated.

Her comments highlight internal discussions within the NDC about balancing meritocracy with political loyalty while ensuring that government appointments reflect broad-based representation.
