Black Satellites suffer 5-0 humiliating defeat to Germany in international friendly

Black Satellites suffer 5-0 humiliating defeat to Germany in international friendly

The Black Satellites of Ghana endured a humiliating 5-0 defeat against Germany U-20 in a one-sided international friendly, as part of their preparations for the 2024 WAFU B qualifiers.

Germany took control of the match from the start, with Ansah opening the scoring in just the 2nd minute. The young German side continued to dominate, and Weiper doubled their lead in the 13th minute. Ansah then secured his brace before Bischof added a fourth goal just before halftime, leaving the Ghanaians stunned as they went into the break 4-0 down.

Despite a few changes from Black Satellites coach Desmond Ofei, the Ghanaian team struggled to mount a comeback in the second half. Komur rounded off the victory for Germany with a fifth goal in the 79th minute, sealing a comprehensive win.

The Black Satellites, who recently won the 2023 African Games Men’s Football tournament, were looking to continue their strong form heading into this month’s U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) WAFU B qualifiers. However, this heavy defeat serves as a wake-up call for the team as they prepare for their Group A fixtures against Togo, Benin, and Niger.

Ghana last won the U-20 AFCON in 2021 but missed out on the 2023 edition, which was won by Senegal. With the qualifiers set to take place in Togo from October 17 to 31, 2024, the four-time champions will be eager to bounce back and secure a spot in both the 2025 U-20 AFCON and the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

The Black Satellites will need to regroup quickly to ensure they are ready for the challenges ahead as they aim to make a return to the continental stage.
