The Member of Parliament for North Tongu constituency, Hon Samuel Okudzto Ablakwa has revealed another jaw dropping exposé on the controversial National Cathedral project. In a new documents, he said despite the public outcry, three top officials overseeing the stalled National Cathedral project are set to receive their September salaries today, totaling GHS 71, 280.
Samuel Okudzto Ablakwa disclosed that the officials — Dr. Paul Opoku Mensah(Overseer), Rev. Father Ebenezer Saka Ameyaw(Church Relations Manager), and Mrs. Rebecca Lovia Martechoo Yakpo(Programme Director) — have been recieving uninterrupted salaries for the past 31 months with no work done on the project since March 2022. The cumulative tax payers money paid to these officials over this period is GHS2,209,680.
Dr. Opoku Mensah is top paid among the three and has been recieving uninterrupted monthly salary of GHS29,838 since November 2017, while both Rev. Ameyaw and Mrs. Yakpo have each received GHS20,721 since January 2021.
The member of parliament criticised the New Patriotic Party government for it’s “intransigence” arguing that these people continue to receive their salaries despite the growing public dissatisfaction over the stalled US$450 million project, popularly known as “the world’s most expensive pit”.
Ablakwa condemned Akuffo Addo/Bawumia government over misplaced priorities, citing unpaid wages and ongoing labour strikes by workers who are actively working to propel the country’s development.
Samuel Okudzto Ablakwa urged well meaning Ghanaians to hold Akuffo Addo and Bawumia accountable for their mismanagement. He promised that under John Dramani Mahama’s administration, all the funds looted would be recovered.
