A severe shortage of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has hit parts of Accra, leaving residents and businesses in a state of uncertainty.
Marketers have cautioned that if the situation persists, it could lead to the closure of gas stations across the country, disrupting daily life and causing significant inconvenience.
Many gas stations in the city are displaying “No Gas” signs, frustrating consumers who are left searching for alternatives or returning home empty-handed.
The few stations that still have LPG are struggling to meet overwhelming demand, further intensifying the crisis.
Consumers affected by the shortage are calling on authorities to take swift action to resolve the issue.
Speaking to Channel One News, Vice President of the LPG Marketers Association (LPGMA), Gabriel Kumi, warned that the situation could deteriorate further.
He stated that if supplies from Bulk Oil Distributors do not improve, gas stations could face widespread shutdowns by the weekend.
“My checks this morning indicate that about 70% of LPG outlets in the Greater Accra Metropolis have run out of gas. If the situation does not improve, this could rise to about 80% and if the situation is not averted, by close of tomorrow, we expect all LPG stations in Greater Accra to run out of gas,” said a representative of the LPGMA.
However, the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has contradicted these claims, stating that the issue has been resolved.
Despite this assertion, consumers and marketers remain unconvinced and are calling for urgent action to address the shortage.
