The Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana has warned of continuous increase in transport fares if the government refuses to reduce or scrapp some taxes.
”We want to draw the attention of Ghanaians to the fact that, the government is continuously draining the pockets of drivers with nuisance taxes on petroleum products.
The government refusal to scrap off these imposed levies and margins on petroleum products that is negatively affecting our industry. Such levies are sanitation levy, pollution levy and special petroleum tax. according to a statement released by the association.We are cautioning the government to clear these levies off the petroleum products to ease financial burden on us” according to a statement by the association.
Reacting to this in an interview on Plan B FM’s ‘Ebaanosen’ show hosted by Ohene Kinnah on Tuesday, 6th August 2024, National Chairman for Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana, Paa Willie stated emphatically that, the Vice President who is currently the Flagberear of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) who also doubles as the Chairman of the economic management team.
“Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has made them to understand that clearing off these nuisance taxes is possible.”Hence refusal of the government to heed to our call will result in series of demonstrations and random increment of transport fares. We are given the government one week ultimatum to do as we wish” he confirmed.
