The leadership of the Transport Operators Association of Ghana has announced a 15 percent transport fare increment.
The increment starts on Monday, July 22, they said.
This has become necessary due to the recent surge in petroleum and spare parts prices coupled with economic hardship.
The Concern Drivers Association Public Relations Officer, Mr David Aboadze stated in his address, “Some oil marketing companies (OMCs) have begun upwardly adjusting their prices at the pumps following the commencement of July’s second pricing window, which left them with no choice but to adjust the transport fare.
Mr. David Aboadze voiced concerns about the continual increase in fuel prices, noting that for the six months prior, the price per barrel of fuel on the global market has remained stable.
He also attributes the erratic hikes in fuel costs to the mishandling of the Cedi’s value with respect to the US dollar.
Lastly, Mr Aboadze promised Ghanaians a 15% increase in transit costs, but he stated the head unions would meet to discuss the new rates.
