Ghanaian boxer Samuel Takyi has announced his decision to move into the professional ranks after recording an outstanding amateur career.
Takyi made the announcement via his X (formerly Twitter) page in the lead up to the start of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
In the aftermath of the announcement, Takyi added that he has signed on to Streetwise Management that is headlined by renowned promoter Michael Amoo-Bediako.
Bediako is famous for promoting former IBF Lightweight and Commonwealth champion Richard Commey who has battled the division’s heavy hitters including Teofimo Lopez and Vasyl Lomachenko in his career.
The 23 year old won bronze at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan and added to his medal haul by winning gold in the light welterweight division at the 2023 African Games.
Takyi’s gold medal was one of four gold medals Ghana won on the penultimate day of competition at Accra 2023.
An excerpt of the statement read, “I hope now to have the same success in the professional ranks and bring another world champion home to Ghana.”
