The Ministry of Health will soon roll out an appointment system for patients who regularly visit health facilities for checkups.
The Minister-designate for Health, Dr Okoe Boi announced this when he visited the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital on Monday. putting in a lot of effort to ensure that this administration can pilot a booking system for hospital visits in this nation by the third quarter of 2024.
He said from the time of Gordon Guggisberg till the present, they have been doing the same thing, most Ghanaians leave home before 6 a.m. on the understanding that the earlier you arrive, the greater your chances of seeing a doctor.
Mr Boi noted that it is time for the government to implement a system that would enable Ghanaians to visit the hospital, see their doctor, and then return home without wasting valuable time wandering around the medical facility.
‘For one hundred years, we have been doing the same thing. Having a system in place that enables common Ghanaians, such as market vendors and shoemakers, to know that when I arrive at the hospital at 12pm, that is when I will see the doctor is not difficult to implement’ he said.
He assured that the implementation of the booking system is possible if only those in charge believe it can be done.
‘We will put in a lot of effort by the third quarter to begin implementing the booking system’ he added.
Mr Boi inspected the status of several hospital projects including the building and outfitting of a centre of excellence for urology and nephrology at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, which was completed by the contractor and given to the hospital, the Ministry of Health, and the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for full operationalization. Our current stage is Liability for Defects.
