The Tema Central Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticized the Akufo-Addo government for depriving Tema of needed development.
They expressed disappointment at the current state of development in the heavy industrial area which is recognised as the industrial hub of Ghana.
They contend that the Tema Metropolis is rapidly losing its ‘industrial’ attractiveness.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday March 19, 2024, a member of the Tema Central NDC Communication Bureau, Kingsley Ackah-koufie expressed his frustration over the bad road network in Tema particularly the industrial area and the continuous neglect, which has affected development in the Metropolis.
He called on the government as a matter of urgency to fix the roads in Tema.
“There are ‘man-holes’ scattered over the roads in Tema. They cannot be described as ‘pot-holes’ because they are larger and vehicles are trapped in them on daily basis. When it rains it becomes impassable. This certainly affects businesses located in the communities” he stated
He also complained about the authorities’ failure to repair malfunctioning traffic lights at major intersections in the area, particularly the traffic lights at Community 4 & 5 junction which have been out of commission for almost a year now and attempts to get authorities to fix them have been futile.
“The traffic lights have not been working and due to that some of the drivers when they get to the intersection there is this confusion as to which driver should wait for the other to move. And this mostly leads to accidents” he said
The also expressed dismay about the sorry state of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), which they believe has collapsed under the NPP government.
According to the Tema Central NDC, the company that was thriving under their tenure is collapsing under the inept NPP administration.
“TOR has never processed crude oil again since we (NDC) left office; During the time of the NDC, we sent the first batch of Ghanaian crude oil from our own oil fields to TOR before we left office. That oil sat there for several years before being discounted and sold without being processed. This government has failed to add value to the refinery which has resulted in its collapse”
They called on Ghanaians and the people of Tema to vote out the NPP government in the December 7th election to bring back the NDC to alleviate the sufferings of Ghanaians.
