David Agboado, spokesperson for the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana, has said that the association has suspended the impending transport fares increment announced on Monday, March 4.

A joint statement from the Transport Operators Union and the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana indicated a 30 percent increment in transport fares, effective Thursday, March 7.

However, Mr. Agboado, in an interview with TV3  said the association has called its members into order

He added that all the unions are in “talks with the transport ministry” as plans are far advanced to reach a consensus on the increment.

“In fact, the way they did it yesterday [March 4 release] took us by surprise,” he said.

According to Agboado, some three executives have been suspended in connection with the March 4 press release.

He further maintained that commuters should not expect any increment in their transport fares from tomorrow, Thursday, March 7, 2024, adding, “They did it on their own, it is suspended.”

However, Agboado indicated there would be an increase in transport fares in the coming weeks.

“There will be increment but not on the 7th of March,” he emphasised.

He added that a new directive on a proposed increment will be communicated to all stakeholders by next week after the ongoing deliberations.
