At least five people are feared dead following a violent collision between a tipper truck and a Sprinter bus at the Ofankor Barrier on the Accra–Kumasi Highway in the early hours of Thursday, August 13, 2026.

The crash left the Sprinter bus severely damaged, with several passengers trapped inside the wreckage and requiring urgent assistance from emergency responders.

According to ADO1 Alex King Nartey of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), firefighters were dispatched to the scene to rescue trapped victims and assist those who survived the collision.

Five fatalities have so far been confirmed, while several other victims sustained serious injuries. One female passenger reportedly suffered severe injuries, including severed legs, and was transported to a medical facility by ambulance.

The GNFS described the situation as volatile as its personnel worked to safely extricate victims from the mangled vehicle and bring the rescue operation under control.

The final casualty figure remains uncertain, with rescue efforts still ongoing at the time of reporting.

The crash has also caused significant disruption to traffic on the highway, forcing authorities to temporarily restrict movement on parts of the road to facilitate rescue operations.

Motorists travelling from Pokuase and Amasaman towards Ofankor and Accra have been advised to use the outer lane and approach the area with extreme caution.

Drivers have also been urged to give way to emergency vehicles and cooperate with responders as the operation to rescue victims and clear the wreckage continues.
