The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), in the early hours of Monday 29 January 2024, embarked on an exercise to clear traders who sell along the Kwasea Dwaso Market Street, which is situated directly behind the Community One (1) Presbyterian Church, as part of an exercise to decongest the street.

Speaking to Madam Theresa a trader on Plan BFM’s morning show ‘Nkosuo Nsem’ hosted by Obidehye Kofi Sekyi, she explained that, the exercise, which took place between the hours of 5:00 am and 6:00 was carried out by a combined team of police personnel, TMA task force, City Guards and TMA environmental officers.

She stressed that quantities of foodstuffs, including cassava, plantain, banana, cocoyam, and bags of maize among others, worth thousands of Ghana cedis, were seized by the team and carted to the TMA premises.

According to the traders they were sent from Kwasea Dwaso Market Street to Oninku School Park in heat of the covid 19 pandemic as measures to curb the outbreak,  but they were asked to go back to their original place after COVID was over.

“They are sacking us from the streets without providing a place for us to go. They are telling us to go into the market but the place is overcrowded and there are only market stores and not everyone can afford it” she stressed
