A pastor with the Charismatic Life Assembly Church Tema Community 6, Rev. Roger Carl Parkins has stated that the introduction of the Electronic Levy popularly known as E-levy is a wicked tax introduced by our leaders.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s lifestyle, family and relationship show NYANSAPO FIE hosted by Rev. Dr. Michael Asenso, Rev. Parkins expressed his disappointment with the government for introducing such tax to suffocate ordinary citizens.
“This is total wickedness from these useless leaders, can’t they see E-levy is affecting society? what are they doing about it, are we still going to pay for it, what kind of leaders is this, it seems they don’t care about their people”, He fumed.
He said it is a total cheat for an already taxed money to be taxed again when sending money to your family or loved ones through MoMo.
However, the E-Levy has failed to meet all of its revenue targets since its introduction. In April 2022, telcos registered an over 300,000 loss of mobile money subscribers.

According to the Summary of Economic and Financial Data (May 2022), active mobile money subscribers saw a decline in April to 18.6 million from the 18.9 million recorded the previous month.
The mobile money industry also lost 4,000 active agents, as their number declined to 454,000 in April from the previous month’s 458,000. The value of transactions also dropped by GH¢2.8 billion within the period under discussion.
