Ghana Armed Forces Are Beyond Staging Coup D’ètat – Defence Minister On Niger, Burkina, Mali Coups

Ghana Armed Forces Are Beyond Staging Coup D’ètat – Defence Minister On Niger, Burkina, Mali Coups

Dominic Nitiwul, the Minister of Defence, has assured Ghanaians that the Ghana Armed Forces will not conduct a coup d’état.

The Minister’s remarks follow a spate of coup d’états in Mali, Guinea, Burkina Faso, and most recently Niger, which has alarmed a great number of individuals.

Dominic Nitiwul assured Ghanaians that the Ghana Armed Forces is incapable of staging a coup while escorting James Cleverly, the UK’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Development, and the Commonwealth.

He stated that the Ghana Army are rather democracy defenders.

“I can assure you that the professionalism of the armed forces is unparalleled, and I have no cause for concern.” No, not at all. He stated, “I am not concerned about a member of any of the member armed forces taking up arms to overthrow the government.”

“Not in any way. They will rather defend the people’s will. They prefer that no one manipulate an election. The Ghana Armed Forces exceeds this, he added.

During his Kumasi Tour at Idris Barracks in the Ashanti Region, the President passionately delivered this speech in front of the military. At that time, the President was so unpopular that he was jeered by men and women in the Adum Kejetia market who had previously been his most ardent supporters.

President Akufo-Addo, speaking about the challenges the nation faces, implored the military to support him in guiding the nation out of the current difficulties with loyalty.

President Akufo-Addo urged the security agency to remain “excellent patriots, excellent representatives of the security agencies, and excellent citizens of our country,” stating that he is extremely honoured to serve as their Commander in Chief.

“We are experiencing a difficult period in our nation’s history…. Our economy is going through a difficult period. “We are also going through a difficult time in terms of security,” the President told the military personnel.

Regarding the economy, we are all aware of the events that have transpired over the past year, which have put many things under pressure. We are exerting every effort in ongoing negotiations with foreign partners to restore our economy to health. Our economic difficulties will be a thing of the past very shortly.

The President continued,

“I want to encourage you to keep up the excellent work you’re doing for our country. I encourage you to remain steadfast in your loyalty to the Republic and the Constitution of our nation so that the orderly, peaceful development of our country can occur, which is the only way to ensure the future prosperity we are all striving for…. So that these [present] generations of Ghanaians will leave as our legacy that, even when things were difficult in Ghana, we all remained united under our Republican institutions and the constitution to achieve success. I am confident that we can accomplish this, and I am relying on your assistance.” The President’s Term Ended.
