The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has extended an invitation to Mr. Emmanuel Quarshie, also known as Hitman and the host of Akina Radio Station’s morning program.
The police, specifically the Cold Case Unit, have requested a copy of Mr. Quarshie’s Morning breakfast program broadcast on Akina Radio Station in the Bono Region from 6:00 am to 10:00 am on December 8, 2020.
In a letter dated 16 June 2023 and signed by ACP S.A. Ayawine, Director of Administration at CID, the police request the cooperation of the station’s administration in releasing Mr. Quarshie.
The letter requests his presence at the director’s office of the Cold Case Unit on June 27, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. to assist with ongoing investigations.
Earlier in a statement, the former host of Accra FM’s morning show, Mr. Emmanuel Quarshie, also known in the media circles as Hitman, appealed to the leadership of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to intervene because three sub-chiefs from the Bono East region are allegedly impeding him in the performance of his duties.
According to the presenter, the three chiefs in the Techiman municipality who are affiliated with the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) have adopted an unjustified revengeful stance against him.
The statement named Nana Hansuahene, Nana Twafohene, and Sansamahene as the three chiefs.
This appeal was made by Mr. Quarshie in a statement dated March 23, 2023.
According to the statement, the three chiefs believe that they are “badly exposing the corruption within the government and the unfulfilled promises made to Ghanaians by the NPP.”
The statement noted, “My primary responsibility as a professional journalist is to criticize the government, hold them accountable to the people, and ensure that any such promises made to the people are kept.”
I trust you agree that this is the standard of conduct expected of a journalist in Ghana, the statement continued.
The presenter presently employed by Akina FM in the Techiman municipality stated that the chiefs’ determination to prevent him from performing his duties will not be tolerated.
The statement emphasized that the chiefs are actively pursuing a plan to prevent the radio host from performing his duties.
“Additionally, my investigations have revealed that they are doing this on the Techimanhene’s vulnerable side.
The conspiracy, according to the statement, was to interfere negatively with the management of the Akina Radio station’s decision to fire the presenter.
The statement concluded with an impassioned appeal to former President John Dramani Mahama, NDC National Chairman Johnson Aseidu Nketia, General Secretary Fiifi Kwetey, the NDC legal team, and the Bono East Regional Chairman to intervene expeditiously for an amicable resolution to allow the presenter to perform his journalistic duties.
