Contractors give gov’t up to April ending to pay them or face legal action

Contractors give gov’t up to April ending to pay them or face legal action
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Chamber of Construction Industry has warned the government to pay them by the end of April or face legal action from over unpaid monies.

Speaking to Ohene Kinnah on Plan B FM’s ‘Ebaanosen’  the CEO of Chamber of Construction Industry Emmanuel Cherry explained that their debtors are chasing them day and night for their monies in a devastating manner.

“The government has turned us into beggars, we have worked and we deserve to be paid, why should you promise if you can’t fulfill it, about 97% of our members have packed out from the site until we are paid. Despite our efforts to recover payment, members have been left with no other options” he stressed.

Some of the monies stretch back to 2017, and the government’s outstanding debt to contractors has now reached a critical level of more than GH¢15 billion, according to the chamber.

The Chamber’s CEO, Emmanuel Cherry, expressed these worries and emphasized the critical need for a resolution to prevent further harm to the affected businesses.
