Corruption fight: our leaders use words instead of laws and actions

Corruption Has Become A Profit-making Venture For The Political Class – Expert

Mr. Nicherin Appiah Boadi a social commentator has indicated that corruption is still on the rise in the country because our leaders who are responsible to use the actions of the law seem to be using words in fighting the menace.

Speaking to Ohene Addo on Plan B FM morning show NKOSUONSEM on 1st Feb 2023 on the latest Corruption Perception Index released by Transparency International shows that Ghana has failed to make progress for the third consecutive year in its fight against corruption.

He said Ghana has all the institutions like CHRAJ, EOCO, and OSP, NIB to fight the kanaka but nothing seems to be working.

“looking at the Auditor General report 2020 and how the covid 19 monies were spent is something people should have been penalized by now but all the perpetrators are walking freely while the nation suffers, this has been the norm for years because it is believed that appointees appointed by the president into such institutions one way or the other work to favor their master ‘President’ but if all those appointed by the president pass through all the tanks before attaining they can work without favor” .he said

Ghana with a score of 43, ranked 8 out of 49 countries in Sub Sahara Africa which were included in the index,

alongside Benin (43), Senegal (43) and South Africa (43).

Though Ghana’s score is classified as low, it is still above the Sub-Saharan Africa average of 33.

The report was of the view that the misuse, embezzlement or theft of public funds can deprive the very institutions of resources they need to fulfil their mandate which include protecting citizens, enforcing the rule of law and safeguarding peace.
