Mr Alex Emmanuel Nti, a political analyst and a financial engineer has told Tema Community 2-base radio station, Plan-B FM that, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as a political party is likely to lose the 2024 general election if Ken Ofori-Atta, the finance ministercontinues to stay in office.
Speaking to the host Ohene Kinnah On the station’s current affairs show, dubbed ‘Ebaanosen’, Mr Nti noted that it is unprecedented, the number of NPP members who have publicly voiced out their displeasure at President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s refusal to remove the finance minister from office.
He continued if the finance minister is made to stay in office, it will hugely affect the fortunes of the NPP in the next general elections and advice that if the ruling party wants to stay in office, one of the things it needs to do is to ensure that it heeds to the call by Ghanaians especially its party members who called for his removal from office.
According to him some of the people who spoke publicly against the president’s decision to keep the finance minister were just not ordinary party members but persons who are also prominent within the party who wield some level of influence on other party faithfuls.
The political analyst explained that the views expressed by these people were clear indication of things especially the economy of the country not moving in the right direction.
“Let me put it on record that if he the president refuses to heed to the call of the people including his party members, the NPP as a political party should forget the 2024 general elections. They will lose the election”, MrNti remarked.
The President’s refusal to remove the finance minister, Mr Nti noted, is beyond Ghanaians’ comprehension and wondered the reason behind Akufo-Addo’s decision to make Ken Ofori-Atta stay in office where there is overwhelming evidence that the country’s economy is in a mess.
He hoped that the NPP would not regret this action of the President which has made the NPP government unpopular among Ghanaians.
Suggesting what he believe could bring about a change in this, Mr Nti encouraged the leadership of the party to meet with the president where he should be explained to why he has to remove the finance minister from office.
“The leadership of the NPP should hold a meeting with the president and tell him in the face what his refusal could do to the party in the 2024 general election. He should be told that his action is going to hand over power to the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC)”, the political analyst cum financial engineer noted and added the situation could change if he the president listens to the call to sack Ken Ofori-Atta.
