The royal family of Agona Duakwa in the Central Region has given embattled chief Nana Kojo Amuakwa V a one-week ultimatum to vacate the stool.
In a statement issued on Monday, September 5 by the Ebusuapanin, Nana Kwesi Ackom, Nana Amuakwa V is cited for creating division in the Royal Dwumana Okropong Ebusua.
A meeting is said to have been held among the elders over the weekend.
At the meeting, the family made a final declaration “that after 12 years of protracted litigation with the chief, and the chief’s self-admitted statement that he no longer belongs to the Royal Dwumana Ebusua but he has seceded with a faction of the clan to form another Ebusua, Nana Kojo Amuakwa ceases to be a Royal and can no longer hold himself as chief”.
According to the declaration, “Nana Kojo Amuakwa V has one week to vacate the Royal stool to create way for the recognized royal family to nominate a new candidate to be chief”.
Known in private life as John Akyene Duncan, Nana Amuakwa is said to have unilaterally appointed a family head against all customs and advice and for the past six years sowed seeds of discord.
The Dwumana Okropong Family is the recognized royal family which has produced chiefs at Agona Duakwa since the creation of the town.
