Three persons have been reportedly shot dead in a renewed clashes in the Bawku municipality last night.

This incident happened at the Old Kariama Market area of Nyatinga.

In March 2022, a horse trader residing in Natiga was shot dead. The deceased had gone to Widana, another community, to bring one of his horses to Bawku.

He was allegedly trailed by some unknown people on a motorbike and shot dead at Konsinze.

After the unfortunate incident, there were other sporadic gunshots in Bawku.

Recent tensions in Bakwu prompted the ban on motorbikes, smock-wearing as well as a curfew on the entire township.

Recent tensions can be traced to December 27, 2021, when there was gun shots in parts of the town after attempts to perform the final funeral rites of a Chief who died about 41 years ago.

The age-old Bawku chieftaincy conflict is a struggle between Kusasis and Mamprusis over the occupancy of the Bawku throne.

The peak of the conflict between the two groups was between 2007 and 2012 where some 182 people including children were killed in cold blood either in their homes or at unlikely spots, many houses set on fire and several residents relocated.
