Remove Ofori Atta from Finance Ministry – NPP’s Solomon Owusu to Akufo-Addo

Majority Against The E-levy Are From NPP Strongholds – Dramani Dzramado

A member of the Communications Team of the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP) Solomon Owusu has called on President Akufo-Addo to reassign the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta.

According to him, this will engender renewed confidence in the economy which is currently on a downward spiral.

Ghana’s economy is presently in distress with prices of commodities increasing rapidly resulting in lots of Ghanaians complaining of hardship.

A section of the public believes the Finance Minister is at his wits end and is not able to profer a solution to ensure the ailing economy bounces back.

Speaking on “Ghana Kasa” show on Kasapa FM/Agoo TV, the frank-talking Solomon Owusu said though he knows it will be difficult for the President to reshuffle his relative who occupies such a sensitive position, that is the surest way to go.

“One thing I believe the President must do to bring back confidence in the economy is to reshuffle his ministers, it is very crucial. Sometime back in South Africa, the Rand was depreciating at a fast rate, President Ramaphosa did one thing, he changed the Finance Minister. Immediately he did that, the economy started picking up. In this world, perception is very important, our Finance Minister is being bashed day in day out over his performance. The President going forward must immediately shuffle Finance Minister to bring about renewed confidence in the economy.”

He added: “The Finance Minister may be doing his best, but the perception about him is that he’s not doing much to stabilize the economy. Honestly, things are not going well at all and if the President wants him (Finance Minister) to still be in government he must move him from the Finance Ministry. I understand the Governor cannot be sacked, he must be told to put his foot down so that there’s renewed confidence in the financial sector. If the President will listen to me, when these two things are done, at the back of Ghana qualifying for the World Cup and the passage of E-levy, it will mark a defining moment for us as a nation. The President should do this and it will immensely help Ghanaians.”
