President Nana Addo Akufo-Addo is hopeful the World Cup qualifier between the Black Stars of Ghana and the Super Eagles of Nigeria today will be an epic one to watch.
Nana Akufo-Addo says the rivalry between the two countries will be reignited when they clash today.
Speaking at the 20th-anniversary celebration of the passing of Shehu Musa Yar’Adua in Abuja, Nigeria, last night, Nana Akufo-Addo says the game will deepen the bond between the two countries.
“I believe an encounter between the two countries remains one of the best in the world. I have no doubt that the 2022 World Cup qualifiers between the two countries will provide another colourful chapter in the annals of the rivals.”
Ghana’s Black Stars will take on Nigeria in the 2022 World Cup Play-offs.
The first leg will be hosted in Ghana at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi today, March 25, 2022, before the Black Stars travel to Abuja to face the Super Eagles three days later.
The winner over the two legs will book one of Africa’s five tickets for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, to be hosted in Qatar.
A win for the Black Stars will be the fourth time they will be making an appearance at the global showpiece, having missed the 2018 edition.
