NPP Members Accuse National Executives Of Bending The Rules For Asiamah In Fomena

NPP Members Accuse National Executives Of Bending The Rules For Asiamah In Fomena
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Fomena is raging over what many have described as a rule-bending maneuver by the national executives for the independent member of parliament and his supporters. This is also inconsistent with the statements made by party executives during the election, when the majority of their members in the region went independent.

They gave strong assurances to the many supporters who stood by them during the Ashanti Region defections. However, due to the bizarre manner in which the parliamentary election in Fomena turned out, they were forced to swallow the majority of their words delivered to their base.

Bending the rules for Andrew Asiamah in Fomena

According to one Michael Ankapong, the general secretary Mr Boadu, who spoke from article 3(9)(2) of the NPP’s Constitution, assured them (the base) that all those who went independent and their followers have forfeited their membership in the party.

According to Mr. Ankapong, the party’s national Secretary also stated that the defectors cannot and will not be allowed to run for office in the constituency in the name of the NPP. The aggrieved NPP members in Fomena went on to say that this is not the case right now. They claimed that the party has reversed its position and invited Mr. Asiamah and his supporters to run in the elections as if nothing had happened.

They claim that the party has purposefully postponed the election in Fomena and added them to the list of constituencies with issues. The disgruntled members are thus calling on the ruling party’s national executives to come and explain why they added Fomena to constituencies with issues and why Asiamah defectors should be allowed to run alongside them.

The Ashanti regional Correspondent of TV3 asked Mr. Buabeng Asamoah a couple of days ago,why the Fomena constituency was added to the 8 constituencies with issues? However, he was unable to respond to the question. Mr. Buabeng was asked three times about the problem, but he couldn’t explain it.

In fact we can conclude that Mr Asiamah has given his former party a difficult puzzle to solve in Fomena.

We’ll find out the answer to the Fomena puzzle in the next days and weeks.
